Product and installation
Build the compliance evidence
The aeronautical perimeter is one part of the assessment. Each applicable product, installation and operating requirement needs its own evidence; this map does not declare an untested prototype compliant.
Screening dated 15 October 2026 · applicability and tests remain configuration-specific
From rule to evidence
For each family: identify the actual equipment and use, assess scope and exclusions, select the applicable technical route, produce the necessary tests and documents, then record the result. A source link closes the research step, not the conformity step. No general CE certificate or approval is claimed here.
Electrical assembly
Assess the actual supply, voltages, accessible parts, insulation, water ingress, earthing and thermal behaviour. The Low Voltage Directive has voltage-based scope; operating below its threshold does not establish electrical safety. Ground power supplies and airborne equipment need their own assessment.
EMC and radio
Select the applicable EMC or radio-equipment route for the assembled product, including emissions, immunity and permitted spectrum use. The RED safety objectives have no minimum voltage threshold. Compliant radio modules do not by themselves establish conformity of Luna’s complete integration. Connected equipment needs the relevant security assessment too.
Mechanics and recovery
The envelope, tethers, attachments, anchoring, breakaway behaviour and recovery plan need engineering evidence. If the final ground installation includes powered machinery such as a winch, assess its own machinery requirements and exclusions. The Machinery Directive remains the main regime before the Machinery Regulation becomes generally applicable on 20 January 2027; a future rule is not claimed as current conformity.
Helium and pressure
Assess the envelope’s actual maximum allowable pressure separately from helium cylinders, regulators, storage and transport. PED starts from pressure above 0.5 bar within its own scope and exclusions, including its aviation exclusions. Transportable cylinders require a separate assessment under their transportable-equipment and dangerous-goods regime. A low-pressure envelope does not exempt high-pressure supply equipment or remove handling and ventilation risks.
Light and exposure
Verify installed angular photometry, glare, thermal limits and photobiological exposure, including predictable tilted positions and failures. Outdoor-light rules depend on the Region and site. The closed spherical envelope and its small transparent lower membrane section define the intended light path; they are not the measured compliance of the whole lamp. The 100 klm scenario alone says nothing about illuminance or eye safety at a given distance.
Materials and end of life
Screen electrical and electronic equipment, batteries if fitted, materials and waste duties against the final bill of materials and supply model. RoHS restrictions and WEEE responsibilities are different obligations, with their own scopes and exclusions. Supplier declarations support the dossier but do not replace the manufacturer’s final assessment.
Supply and responsibility
Define whether the activity is an internal prototype test, an operated service, hire or sale, and who acts as manufacturer and operator. The general product-safety regulation has a specific exclusion for the Annex I aircraft referenced in Article 2(2)(h): it is not a universal exemption for every electrical component, accessory or supply arrangement. Establish the applicable sectoral route and adequate liability cover for the actual activity.
Future imaging functions
Cameras, thermal imaging and connectivity remain optional later workstreams. Before activating them, assess lawful purpose, data minimisation, information notices, access, retention, security and any workplace-monitoring restrictions. Lighting-only operation does not establish permission for surveillance.
