Abstract
The hydraulic system at Casa del Forno centres on a heat pump located in the boiler room, providing hot water to all bathrooms and radiators with minimal thermal dispersion due to strategic pipe routing.
Hydraulic System
Overview
The hydraulic system at Casa del Forno is designed for efficiency and minimal heat loss. All water heating and distribution originates from the Boiler Room, where a heat pump provides hot water for the entire property.
Heat Pump System
Location: Boiler Room
The heat pump is installed in the Boiler Room (locale caldaia), which is strategically positioned in the basement of Casa del Forno. This location was chosen because:
- Central position beneath the main apartments
- Direct vertical access to Sub 5 bathroom above
- Immediate horizontal access to Sub 7 bathroom adjacent
- Minimal pipe runs = minimal thermal dispersion
Hot Water Distribution
From the Boiler Room, hot water pipes are distributed to:
| Destination | Connection Type | Distance | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sub 5 Bathroom | Vertical (straight up) | Minimal | Directly above boiler room |
| Sub 7 Bathroom | Horizontal (adjacent) | Minimal | Immediately next to boiler room |
| Outdoor Bathroom | Dedicated run | Short | Hot and cold water supply |
TIP
Thermal Efficiency: By positioning all bathrooms close to the boiler room, we achieve minimal thermal dispersion in the hot water system. This means faster hot water delivery and reduced energy waste.
Radiator Heating System
The boiler room also houses the connection point for the radiator heating system. From this central location:
- Pipes distribute heated water to radiators throughout the apartments
- The heat pump provides consistent heating during colder months
- Integration with woodstove heating in individual rooms provides backup
Outdoor Bathroom Connection
The Outdoor Bathroom receives its water supply directly from the boiler room:
| Service | Description |
|---|---|
| Hot Water | Supplied via dedicated pipes from heat pump |
| Cold Water | Standard cold water supply line |
| Drainage | Connected to main waste system |
This ensures the outdoor bathtub, shower, and WCs have full hot and cold water availability year-round.
Drainage and Waste System
CAUTION
Critical Issue: Septic Tank Must Be Replaced
The current drainage system uses a septic tank (fossa biologica), which is not acceptable for our requirements. This must be modified to connect to the main sewer system.
Current Problem
- Current drainage flows to a septic tank
- This is inadequate for our usage requirements
- Does not meet modern standards
Required Modification
The main sewer connection is located only 3 metres from the current pipe routing. The modification requires:
- Redirect existing pipes from the septic tank route
- Connect to the main sewer (fognatura) located 3m away
- Ensure all drainage from bathrooms and kitchens flows to the sewer
| Current State | Required State |
|---|---|
| Septic tank (fossa biologica) | Main sewer connection (fognatura) |
| Limited capacity | Unlimited municipal drainage |
| Maintenance required | Low maintenance |
IMPORTANT
This sewer connection is a priority modification that must be completed before full occupancy of the property.
