Il Forno
Definition
Il Forno is the small, detached stone building standing directly in front of the main house, giving Casa del Forno its name.
Structure & Location
The structure is a historic, independent unit characterized by:
- Traditional Wood-Fired Oven: The core feature of the building.
- Tiled Roof: A classic “copertura a tegole” that protects the structure.
- Location: Situated in the courtyard immediately facing Casa del Forno only a few meters away.
- The Garden: It sits directly adjacent to the property’s Vegetable Garden (Orto).
Strategic Role: The Wood Store (Legnaia)
Beyond its historic value, “Il Forno” plays a critical role in our sustainability cycle.
- Wood Storage: It serves as the primary Legnaia (Wood Store) for the property.
- Source: We stock it with wood harvested directly from our own woods at La Rupe.
- Cycle: Wood is gathered, transported, season, and stored here, creating a clear and efficient supply chain for heating and cooking.
This centralized storage ensures we always have dry, accessible firewood (“tutta la legna che ci serve”) exactly where we need it—near the house and the oven itself.
