Abstract

Diary entry regarding the research for the best internet connection for The Cliffside/Chiappella. Contacted Vodafone (FTTC ~200Mbps) and evaluating Fastweb and TIM.

🌐 Internet Connection Research

Date: December 2nd, 2025

Today I got in contact with Vodafone regarding the internet connection for our location.

Vodafone Offer

  • Technology: Mixed Fiber/Copper (FTTC - Fiber to the Cabinet).
  • Speed: Estimated up to 200 Mbps download.
  • Terms: They offered to send a technician to set up the modem and test the line.
  • Guarantee: If the speed is not satisfactory (not quick enough), I can tell the technician not to install it, and I will not pay anything. This is a “risk-free” trial of the line quality.

Fastweb Offer

  • Cost: €23.95/month fixed price forever.
  • Speed: Stable cable connection (Mixed Fiber/Copper), capped at 30 Mbps.
  • Hardware: Includes a modem with WiFi 6, ensuring good coverage throughout the house.
  • Pros: Very stable connection, sufficient for most uses, good WiFi coverage.
  • Cons: Not the “lightning fast” connection we ideally wanted; limited ways to increase speed beyond this.

Decision

I have signed the contract with Fastweb. The stability, fixed price, and included WiFi 6 modem make it the best choice, despite the speed limitations of the physical infrastructure.

Comparison & Next Steps

I am currently also in contact with Fastweb and TIM to ensure we get the best offer, assuming they all rely on the same physical infrastructure (mixed fiber/copper reaching the property).

Market Research Note (AI Analysis)

Comparing the three major providers for FTTC 200Mbps in Italy (2024/2025 context):

  • Reliability: Vodafone and Fastweb generally rank highest in independent reliability tests (Opensignal, MedUX). TIM is solid but performance heavily depends on the specific cabinet distance.
  • Customer Service: All three have mixed reviews, but Fastweb is often praised for transparency (no hidden costs), while Vodafone’s “risk-free install” is a significant advantage for a rural location where speed is uncertain.
  • Recommendation: Since the physical wire is likely the same (owned by TIM/FiberCop), the performance difference will be minimal. The decision should be based on contract flexibility and price.
    • Advice: The Vodafone offer (test before pay) is excellent for our situation. If Fastweb offers a “no constraint” contract (cancel anytime), that is also a strong contender.

I will proceed to compare the final pricing and contract terms before making a decision.
